Many direct care workers are eligible to get FREE tax preparation at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) location or through free on-line services starting in mid-January.   

Whether you go to a VITA site, or do them on your own, be prepared. Use this checklist to make sure you have all of the information you need to file your taxes!

VITA sites are run by community-based organizations and staffed by volunteers who are trained and certified by the IRS. VITA volunteers are friendly, qualified tax preparers who make sure that you claim all of the credits you are eligible for – all for FREE!  With direct deposit into your checking or savings account, your refund will arrive faster than a paper check.

You can find a free VITA site listing near you by dialing 2-1-1. Some VITA sites are by appointment only and others are first-come, first serve – so be sure to choose a VITA location that fits your schedule.
